Compaq Presario V6500 Drivers for Windows 7

There are 2 types of Compaq Presario V6500 series which is with Intel processor or with AMD processor. Both Model uses different sets of drivers, so i will list out all the drivers for both sets.

Compaq Presario V6000 Windows 7 Drivers

Windows 7 Upgrade Issue

Most of the Drivers installed in windows 7, The main problems with Compaq Presario V6000 upgrade is, when you look at the device manager ; video graphic drivers, base system drivers, co-processor and unknown device marked with yellow triangle which means the drivers is missing.

Read Before Install

1. Early V6000 model use conextant audio drivers (V6000, V6100, V6200, V6300) While V6400 and above have 2 different applicable audio either conextant or Realtek.

2. Run Windows Automatic updates, normally updates for Nvidia and Intel graphic card is available.

3. Check which drivers you need. If your audio and wireless works, do not install the drivers again. To check your drivers status you can refer to my tutorial here.

4. For model with Intel Nvidia chipset, Ethernet controller drivers will install with chipset drivers.

5. From my experience the driver you will need is: Graphic (Nvidia), card reader, Quick Launch and for model with fingerprint need the fingerprint drivers.

1. For Nvidia graphic drivers if the drivers above failed to install, use this drivers:
Original Driver | Modded Drivers 

2. If you have your vista drivers, normally some driver will work on windows 7 by run it as admin and set the compatibility mode for windows vista.

3. Fingerprint: Model with fingerprint driver can install this driver and install in compatibility mode for windows vista is recommended.

4. For base system device, it will disappear in device manager after installing card reader. For co-processor the driver is not important. However if you want to install it right click on it and select update driver. Select "browse my computer for.." clekc browse and point to c:swsetupsp45168.

5. For unknown device it will solve after installing HP Quicklaunch Button.

6. If you have problems, leave your comment and state your V6000 specific series (example: V6423US)

Why there are no official driver release for windows 7 for this model?
It is become the HP/Compaq way to tell user what OS you should use with the model you have, so if there are only driver officially for Xp release mean your laptop only can be use with windows XP. However they not directly prohibit you to use other OS, but you will need to contatct them for technical issues such as compatible driver and other setting.
